Biographical Sketch
María Concepción Guadalupe García Gómez de Zavaleta was born on 25 April, 1900 in H. Matamoros, Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. She was the daughter of Jesus García Cortina and Guadalupe Gómez,1 the second of ten children born to the couple. Concepción was baptized at the age of three on 14 May, 1903 at the Catedral de Nuestra Señora del Refugio in Matamoros.2
At the age of 20, Concepción married Pedro Zavaleta, on 2 July 1921 at the Catedral de Nuestra Señora del Refugio.3 Pedro was 39 at the time. Pedro and Concepción had six children together.
Concepción García Gómez de Zavaleta died on 1 February, 1991 at the age of 90 in Brownsville, Cameron, Texas.4 She died of sepsis caused by pneumonia.
